I feel like giving you things

In I feel like giving you things, dancer Maya Oliva and sound maker Atte Kantonen draw inspiration from radio plays  –theatrical performances designed for listening–  to experiment with how they could translate this idea into an auditory dance piece.

Through this format, they craft a map of fragmented scenes where different memories and associations transform Bar tÿpo into a convergence of disjointed places of belonging –places from which the performer has moved away, places she calls home.

Inspired by a need to document and remember small everyday events from an early age –holding onto memories through lost diaries or cassettes of a radio show she recorded alone before age ten– these abstract presences become moving echoes of the past.

Sensory cues intersect, forming clusters of recognition and familiarity, materializing in an intangible mass in the present and prompting the question of what makes a home. The performer's body is physically absent from the performance space, yet it dances through that very absence, like a scent or a song.

Taking us on a journey between the abstract and the concrete, Maya and Atte create a mosaic of fragments where new connections emerge. Like a map of converging paths, I feel like giving you things sparks associations of the dances within us and reminds us that home can be found in the unlikeliest places.
